My son and his friend won their 7th grade Science Fair with a Stirling engine using the

design in your book "Quick and Easy Stirling Engine".   Here's video and a shot of the

front page of the  small very local paper "Lakeshore News".

Their names are Dave Novakovic and Phi Dang.  I thought you'd like to see it.

April 29, 2014 "Stirling Engine ME-491 Stevens Tech" by Joseph Gombar

Joseph built a Paint Can Stirling Engine.  The thing I like about this design is that it is made from a paint can.  The one you see in the tutorials here runs very much like the one Joseph has put together.  The weight of the flywheel is a little much for the power this engine produces, so it runs a little slowly.  But it just looks like fun!  Joseph did an excellent job following the directions.

April 29, 2013  "Eastenderaz1"

Here is a very interesting video of a two cylinder modification of the Horizontal Stirling Engine from the book, "Eleven Stirling Engine Projects You Can Build.  Many thanks to YouTuber "eastenderaz1" for this very nice build.

Eastenderaz says, "Thank You Mr Larsen!!! You were my inspiration . I bought your book and feel as though I learned from the best. The comment you gave me was overwhelming. I went back to the drawing board several times. I never gave up and a week later there it is... Thank you again."

Update: June 11, 2013: Eastenderaz1 just keeps 'em coming! Here are more of his own custom Stiring Engines made useing the pressure chamber from the Eleven Stirling Engines book.

Approximately two months ago I bought your book "Quick and easy Stirling Engine" from http://BookDepository.co.uk. and successfully created first Stirling can design that works perfectly."  Thank you Ernest!  You did a great job building your Quick and Easy Stirling Engine, and the modification you made to add the candle burner is very good.  Keep up the good work!

Hello

My name is Mattias and I come from Sweden.

I just wanted to say how much this site has helped me during a shool prodjekt had about stirling engins. I first used the instruction videos to understand the consept, and then build the "quick and easy" stirling engine. and then I used the experiens I gained from that to build a two cylinder horizontal "boxer" stirling. If i send some pictures of it is there any possebility that you maybe poste them on the website's  hall of fame? Even thoug it's not from your book?

Anyway i would like to thank you for the help this website gave me and my school mates.

Have a nice day.

Mattias and Axel

Jim Says: You guys did a great job.  I really like the flywheel made from a brake disk off of a bicycle.  Your engine looks like an enhancement of the Horizontal Pop Can Stirling Engine in the book, "Eleven Stirling Engine Projects You Can Build".  I am happy to show your work.  You did a very nice job.

Mattias and Axel's Stirling Engine
Mattias and Axel's Stirling Engine

Jim,

This is the first stirlingengine we made, and we used the "Quick and Easy Stirling Engine" as reference to build it. And building that helped when it came to understand how a Stirling engine works. And we also learned much about where it was most  important to reduce friction and that really came in handy when we made the horizontal engine.

Of course you can add that video as well.

Thanks once again!

Energy Week 2012 in Norway: Quick and Easy Stirling Engine

4/13/2012

Hello!

We have now finished our project building stirling engines – and it was successfully. The pupils were very satisfied about getting the engines to work. Some of them were really fast, and some of the slow. But most important: it was working!

Altogether we made 25 engines, and half of them were working. The reason for some of them not working was because the pupils didn’t were careful enough when they were doing the work.

Here are some pictures and short movies that show our work: http://www.sentralskolen.no/elev/10.trinn/eldresaker/stirling/stirling.html

Thank you so much, Jim. Without your help we wouldn’t made it this good.

Have a nice weekend.

LTD Stirling Engine #1 by Tim Simmons, UK

12/31/2011

Hi Jim,

I thought you might like to see the video of my version of your LTD Engine 1.

I want to thank you for giving me the impetus to try such an interesting project. I've wanted to make a Stirling engine for years, but do not yet have a lathe, so your design was just what I was looking for.

Have a happy new year,

Best Regards,

Tim

Building the Quick and Easy Stirling Engine at the Urban Assembly Academy of Applied Math and Science

2/12/2012

Jim,

The projects came out decently...

My students had a great time learning about the engines and seeing the one little engine struggle along!...  I started this project about 6 weeks into the semester and I think it could work with my high school juniors and seniors.  I will most definitely try this again next year...

Sincerely,

Allen Hubbard

LTD Stirling Engine #3 by Tim Simmons, UK

3/4/2012

Hi Jim,

I have finally got round to finishing design 3 from your LTD book. I'm afraid I still have some optimisation to do, but I have got it to run as shown in the attached rather shaky video clip.

I have so far been using a couple of nightlights to get it going, but I'm sure that I can reduce this with a bit more tuning! I really like this design, it's quite hypnotic in operation!

Best Regards,

Tim Simmons
